Thames barge
The barge type related to the Thames estuary and associated waterways.
Defined by spritsail rig. The largest loaded around 300 tons but 175 was closer
to the average. Size varied depending on the rivers off the main estuary, which
they used. The rig of the Thames barges can usually be lowered to 'shoot'
bridges across the navigation. Stumpies and Mules were specific variations of
barge sailing gear.

Thames sailing barge
The class of barges characterised the Thames estuary and the waterways
relating to the River Thames. Developed for local conditions on the Thames and
nearby shallow estuaries; usually spritsail yawl with leeboards.
Thames skiff
Used on the upper reaches of the river, had a pointed stem and high or
extended sides. Dimensions averaged between 24-26 feet in length, between 3 feet
9 inches and 4 feet in beam and about 12 inches in depth.

trow
The wooden sailing vessel of the Rivers Severn and Wye, typically 60 to 70
feet long and 12 to 20 feet beam, with a shallow draught and a flat bottom.
Originally a trow had a square rig with decks forward and aft only, and an open
cargo space amidships. During the Nineteenth Century those trows trading below
Gloucester tended to adopt a fore and aft rig and a more enclosed hold, but some
remained open. Trows made use of the wind and tide where possible and in
confined waters could be towed by gangs of men, and later horses.
