Railway Terminology Working Group

The Railway Terminology Working Group consists of specialists from a wide range of subject areas within the field of railways and terminology specialists from MDA and the Science Museum Collections Systems Project. The group was set up to develop a thesaurus dedicated to railway terminology for specialist collections in order to address a gap in terminology provision.

The First Edition was launched at MDA Conference in Birmingham in 2002.

The Working Group is still operating and meets on a regular basis to continue to develop and upgrade the thesaurus. Plans for the future include looking into how to produce a version of the thesaurus on CD-ROM that users can download into their collections management software and to address the issue of updating the printed version of the thesaurus.
