Services for Kids and Teachers
UK museums and galleries are full of weird and wonderful things, from mummies to machine guns, dinosaur bones to portraits of famous figures throughout history. Most museums enjoy a good relationship with their local schools, and many provide tailored sessions which can extend and support classroom-based learning.
Working with kids and schools is a new area for the Collections Trust. We are currently developing a number of fun projects which will bring a greater understanding of collections and collecting to schools.
We are also very interested in the potential for cultural collections to support the national curriculum. Museums, archives and libraries hold a tremendous wealth of knowledge about their collections, and many are developing new and exciting ways of using them to illustrate key aspects of the curriculum.
If you have thoughts or ideas about the ways in which we can work with museums, archives and libraries to provide better support for the national curriculum - specifically for core skills such as literacy, numeracy and citizenship - please contact Nick Poole at nick@collectionstrust.org.uk.
