Procedural Manual Workshop

Overview

Procedural Manuals are the basis of a sound documentation system, and are a requirement of MLA's Museum Accreditation Scheme. This workshop gives participants the opportunity to consider procedural manuals in the context of their own collections. Participants will leave with a contents list for their own manuals.

Objectives

By the end of the course participants will have:

  • Understood the structure and purpose of a procedural manual
  • Understood how SPECTRUM: the UK Museum Documentation Standard can help
  • Identified the content of a procedural manual for their museum
  • Started to develop a procedural manual for their museum
  • considered implementation issues

Participants

The course is designed primarily for both museum professionals and volunteers who are:

  • Writing a procedural manual for their Museum Accreditation Scheme application
  • Reviewing their existing procedural manual

Training Methods

This course will deliver the objectives using a mix of presentations, practical exercises and one to one consultancy.

Preparation

Participants should have considered the documentation systems already in use in their museums.
