MDA re-launches as the Collections Trust

11th Apr, 2008

MDA has announced that from 9th April, it will become the Collections Trust, a new independent national organisation for collections.

The new brand builds on MDA's achievements of the past 30 years and has been developed to reflect its new wider remit in the field of Collections Management.

The Collections Trust believes that everybody everywhere should have the right to access and benefit from cultural collections. Its role will be to deliver programmes which help people connect to culture, and which enable practitioners to improve the quality of their services. To achieve this, it will provide advice, support and guidance to professionals and the general public to help them achieve the highest standards in the management of their collections.

Nick Poole, Collections Trust Chief Executive, commented, 'Across museums, libraries, archives and other cultural organisations, a new generation of professionals are bringing new skills in management and leadership to their collections. The Collections Trust's aim is to give a focus to this new movement within the culture sector, capturing the new models and expertise it is generating to ensure that they are as widely available as possible.'

The Collections Trust will continue to be committed to documentation and information management, and over the next 12 months it will be investing in the development of the Collections Link advisory service to provide access to expertise across an even broader range of professional disciplines (www.collectionslink.org.uk).

Among other developments, it also has plans to further develop the SPECTRUM standard, and is working with the British Standards Institute on a new Publicly Accessible Specification for Collections Management, to be launched in the summer.
