Project Proposal - European Inter-Museum Loans System

Part of an active EU funding application.

The vision for the European Inter-museum Loans System is similar to the infrastructure which currently supports the inter-library loans network. There are essentially four strands to the proposed project:

• Providing a mechanism for publishing Collecting Policies online and enabling authorised users to browse for potential lending organisations by active collecting.
• Providing a persistent mechanism for ‘authorising' loan/recipient organisations based on an initial due diligence process for exchanging trust between organisations.
• Providing a distributed system for automating the transfer of documented information between loan and recipient systems, including the return of in-loan documentation to the organisation of origin.
• Providing a document library of national policies, procedures, legal requirements and forms for use when planning and implementing loans.
