Project Proposal - Cultural Vocabulary Studio and Bank

Under active development as part of the joint Collections Trust/MLA/24HM Integrated Architecture Project.

To develop a web service which delivers terminological resources dynamically over the Internet to curators, librarians and archivists.

It is closely modelled on the Becta Vocab Studio and Bank developed for the educational community by the British Education & Communications Technology Agency (Becta).

Has two main elements:

• An online Studio which allows cultural professionals to collaborate online in the development of standard terminologies for use in classification.
• An online Bank which publishes structured terminologies for download or for dynamic use via web services.

Designed to support the sharing of cultural heritage information by minimising the trend for the local development of terminologies.

Upfront investment of £50k with match funding from Collections Trust.
