Europeana

Europeana (formerly the European Digital Library) is a project to bring together digital cultural content from all over Europe, and make it easily accessible for users via the Internet.

The Collections Trust is responsible for coordinating the UK's contribution to Europeana, and is leading a series of work packages which will enable libraries, archives and museums in the UK to participate.

One of the ways we will be contributing to Europeana will be through the Peoples Network Discover service. At the moment this contains records from:

EDLNet

The Collections Trust is collaborating with the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) on the coordination of two work packages under EDLNet:

  • Work Package 1: Human and political interoperability
  • Work Package 2: Rights and Licensing

EuropeanaLocal

EuropeanaLocal is a project which will enable smaller and local organisations to put their content online and share it with Europeana. The Collections Trust is one of the lead partners in the project, and will be responsible for:

  • Work Package 2: A survey of standards and metadata in use throughout Europe
  • Work Package 3: Aggregation of content

ATHENA

ATHENA is a project to develop a common framework of standards and policies for the creation, delivery, preservation and sharing of digital content. The Collections Trust is one of the lead partners in the project.
