Collection Descriptions
Evidence suggests that the public are looking for simple, well-written descriptions of the collections they find in museums, archives and libraries.
Collection Description is a formal approach to writing, publishing and sharing these descriptions via the Internet. The descriptions will provide a tool for marketing the value and content of cultural collections to a mass-audience.
The Collections Trust, as part of the Integrated Architecture Project, is working to pull together Collection Descriptions and to make them available via existing services such as Google and tourist websites.
This work builds on the legacy Cornucopia database and the MICHAEL catalogue of digital collections.
